You can specify your own key or let Xindice generate one for you. If Xindice generates it, it is unique in a collection. There isn't any hard-coded values, but according to the creators, Xindice is for a lot of small documents not Massive documents. They recommend that your documents be in the pproximately 50k-200k size. People have created collections with 1.25 million documents.
