I did this a while ago but all I remember having to do was to
recreate the database.  It wasn't compatible with v1.0.  Not sure about
any issues with Java API.  v1.1 is structured differently that v1.0. 
The server is actually a webapp so you may have to make adjustments.  I
would recommend building the CVS version and trying it out in a test
environment to learn how it operates compared to v1.0 and then trying
to migrate.
