In additional: if I use xalan-2.5.1 and xercesImpl-2.4.0 I get the ERROR : Query error on the folliwing query xindice xpath -c /db/web/news-arch/ -q /news[not(@align='top')] but this works fine if I use xalan-2.4.0 and xercesImpl-2.1.0. In Xalan's bugzilla I can't find any bugs for this (XPath) problem (in my opinion the bug is in xindice)
