when tqsl proposes you to save the signed file, it does so in a file
with no .tq8 extension. You can add it manually in the file name field.
I would expect the LoTW software on the website not to bother about the
extension though, so my question is, are you actually loading the signed
file?
A signed file appears to the unix filesystem as a gzip compressed file:
ik5pvx@penny:~/.tqsl $ file rupecanina201110.tq8

The actual content can be verified with zcat. Here are the first 5 lines
of the above file:

So, to recap: if the lacking .tq8 extension confuses you or the database
import software, add it manually. It's just a name. Make sure you're
uploading the signed file (whatever it's called) and not the original
adif file.
