And that all is just a problem of the user. I guess you read the list. If you want to reply you need to hit 'r' or s.th. similar. Now if you want to post a new message you will hit 'm' if you use mutt, dunno about other clients. But it seems they all just hit 'r' or something which adds the In-Reply-To: and/or References: Header to the next mail. In addition you'll save the time to type in the address where you want to send mail. If you start a thread with a new subject, don't hit 'r', please. If you really want to do it, then at least modify the headers to not reference a wrong mail or thread. If it is not possible to modify the headers (e.g. you don't see it), ask the maintainer of your client to add this as a feature. I can change the headers of my mails and I'll do if needed.
