No & Yes No: An ISP can forward messages trough SMTP to your mailserver MTA-MTA (f.i. a seperate mailserver for a subdomain) Yes: ISP stores and forward messages; you are logging in onto a pop3-mailbox and fetch the mail there. MTA-MUA (typical config)
