How about trying the following to see what is being sent over the wire when sending an email.
Run this as root on your mail server: # tcpdump -X host slsinet.SLS.LIB.IL.US. > /tmp/slsinet See what route you take: # traceroute SLSINET.SLS.LIB.IL.US BTW, I don't have a reverse hostname for my mail server and I was able to send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED], though it bounced right back. I don't see a reverse entry for your mail server either. -Don -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Jim Frank Sent: Thursday, December 05, 2002 6:49 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [xmail] Still having problems communicating with imap server Hello, all... I recently posted here about my xmail server not being able to send into an IMAP server. There is now a reverse hostname associated with all of my ips and i'm still having the error: This is the debug: ErrCode = -5 ErrString = Timeout error SMAIL SMTP-Send MX = "slsinet.sls.lib.il.us." SMTP = "berwynlibrary.net" >From = "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" To = "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" Failed ! SMTP-Error = "417 Temporary delivery error" >> I'm sure what else to do here. Their mail server won't accept anything from xmail it seems. - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe xmail" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For general help: send the line "help" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe xmail" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For general help: send the line "help" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
