Very interesting. I think my problem is more local though. Letme explain in a little more detail --
Ok, my linux box ips are 66.x.x.227-230 Now, the SMTP server I can't reach is: slsinet.sls.lib.il.us:25. But if I attempt to telnet to it from a diff IP outside of my linux box, but located on the same subnet, say 66.x.x.250, it works fine. I need to figure out why my system isn't allowing any connection to slsinet.lib.il.us:25. It continuously times out. Yes, there is a firewall installed (fiaif perlscripts that use iptables), and yes I've tried turning it completely off. I also use portsentry, I've tried turning it completely off as well... still nothing. If any can recommend general tips that may help me to track down why I just can't connect to this specific mail server. I've removed all entries from /etc/hosts.deny Thanks for all your help!
