Yes, it would be round robbin DNS where one of the four servers is choosen,
they are probably just relaying mail to the real servers.

I notice that hotmail.com has
    MX  5  mx1.hotmail.com
    MX  5  mx2.hotmail.com
    MX  5  mx3.hotmail.com
    MX  5  mx4.hotmail.com
