Yep, he is working on it now for version 2.0 If you check the list archive, you'll find lots of comments about IMAP and XMail.

XMail POP produces (more than) two copies of the same message because Courier-IMAP renames the corresponding file - it adds the IMAP flags (Seen, Deleted ...) to the file name - and XMail POP uses the file name as the "unique-id" to the UIDL POP3 command. So, each different combination of flags produces a different "unique-id".
