To all,
For one of the accounts we manage we forward that users' email to
another mail server. Recently the other company's server must have
made some change to their MX records because mail is no longer being
delivered to them successfully (we get invalid server messages from
XMail).
I've already contacted that company to make sure things are ok on
their end, but I also want to verify that settings on my end are
working as well. I have a suspicion that there may be a problem
either with my configuration or, potentially, a bug in XMail. Here
are the details.
The domain we forward to is rlc.net. The MX record for that domain is:
rlc.net. 5M IN MX 10 216.132.113.72.
rlc.net. 5M IN MX 10 216.132.113.71.
Telneting to port 25 on either IP indicates that the servers are
active. For telnet 216.132.113.72 25 the server responds with:
220 mt-mailbast02.rlc.net ModusGate ESMTP Receiver Version 2.1.258.0 Ready
However, I get messages back from XMail indicating their was a
problem delivering the message. One thing that makes me suspect it
may be an XMail error is the server string in the Error Email:
Server: <216.132.113.71.> [216.132.113.71.]
It seems to me that the trailing period shouldn't be there. The
actual error message is:
<<
ErrCode = -40
ErrString = Invalid server address
ErrInfo = 216.132.113.72.
SMAIL SMTP-Send MX = "216.132.113.72." SMTP = "mercury.breezing.com" From =
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" To = "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" Failed !
SMTP-Error = "417 Temporary delivery error"
SMTP-Server = "216.132.113.72."
>>
Is this a problem with XMail, with my own configuration, or with the
target host's DNS configuration?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Toby
