All you need to do to stop the spammers is shutdown your open relay by emptying the smtprelay.tab file. You don't want to enable smtp auth, that will prevent other servers from sending you mail. By emptying the smtprelay.tab anyone sending mail that is not local will have to authenticate when sending.
