I don't think so but I'll tell you what I do in my AV filter.
I first check the number of currently working tasks. Now I do this
very simply by counting the number of temporary folders created
for my virus checking. I had a limit of 30 but raised it with
MyDoom. However, I have never hit it but I'm low volume. The first
thing I do is count the number of folders. If there are fewer than
my limit, in this case 30, then I create a new folder and proceed.
If there are already more folders present than my limit then I
force a sleep for a certain time period and then try again. After
so many tries (3 in my case) I either hold the message and notify
me or I pass the message depending on how I have the program set.
Usually I pass but last week I held so it is good to have this
configurable.
