Our company uses Outlook with xmail (directly and indirectly via =
exchange
server for internal accounts) without any problems about receipts
confirmations ...

Can you explain more about the symptom ...

Is your customer receive any error ?
Is your customer outlook behind an exchange server ? or a direct xmail =
user
?
Do you have any filter installed on xmail ?
What exactly the user is trying to do and/or expect ?

Note that xmail by itself don't generate any 'delivered' reports except =
then
it have trouble sending a mail (in this case the sending user will have =
a
email in is pop3 account saying 'unable to send ... host not found' or
similar reports).
Recept confimations (and read confirmations) are special message =
headers in
the header part of the message (after the DATA smtp session), not in =
the
smtp session. And xmail don't care about the data section contain.
Some others MTA send by themself 'delivery confirmation' (exchange have =
this
option on by default but can be disabled, lotus, ntmail, ...) but in =
most
cases this kind of confirmation is to be handled finally by the mua and =
the
end user (outlook express and outlook that have three options to handle
requests for receipt or read confirmations : never send, ask, allways =
send
recept or read confirmations). Some others mua simply don't care about =
these
headers and never send back a confirmation.

Keed in mind that on mta that can handle them, most admins disable this
feature (especialy isp's) to reduce traffic and to let final user to =
choice
send or not them ...
Keep also in mind that some admins disable mta to send backup any =
delivery
error reports (....) admin choice ... customer choice ... reduce =
traffic ...

With current smtp standard, a sending user can't be garanted that its =
mail
was finaly received and/or read.
There is not 'obligation' (is this the correct english term ...) to =
return
receipts. Only do your best ... (and i think it is better ... think =
about
viruses and others spammers that will received confirmations, and so =
knowing
the address really exist !!!)
