Well

To see if the problem is related to outlook, not the av, restart the pc,
don't start outlook, disabled completely the av (not just for incoming mail
scanning, but real time scanner too) then try another outlook pop3 retrieve
for the 'large mail'.

If outlook downloads the mail correctly, then this is definitively not a
outlook problem !!!
If outlook returns same error, try from a client with same (or more recent)
outlook version but with a better internet connection (if actually on analog
or isdn connection).
If it continues to have the problem, then may be a bug or a patch ... try to
update windows and outlook to last services packs and patchs ..

Note that for my customers, disabling the av on incoming mails (temporarly
of course, and real time scan still running) ALLWAYS resolved the problem
.... never had to do more ...
In some rare cases, the problem appears on sending mail too (so disabling
scan on outgoing smtp resolved the problem) ...

Note that disabling only scan for incoming and/or outcoming mails, but with
real time scan active, the av will continu to catch viruses then mails are
open (not proactive), so the computer allways secured ...
