I have the same problem (?) here ..
But for my point of view, this is not really a problem as 99,99% of the =
bad
emails syntaxes was really bad syntax errors in the mail address ...

The real question is : What Smtp RFC's say about email addresses syntax
check and to define if xmail or exchange (or the two ?) are in error =
(or
none if not explicitly mandatory or regulated in RFC's ...) ...

I did not find yet the 'good' rfc about this problem ...

Objet : [xmail] MAIL FROM: Syntax

Hello Davide,

a dumb SPAMmer sent me a mail, which was received by a Xmail server and =
=3D
then
forwarded to an Exchange-Box - that rejected the message because of an
invalid MAIL FROM:
Here's the error message (parts of)

[<00>] XMail bounce: [EMAIL PROTECTED];Error=3D3D[501 5.5.4 =
=3D
Invalid
Address]

[<01>] Error sending message [1108532210600.2508.71.myxmailserver] from
[myxmailserver.mydomain].

ID: <S91D>
Mail From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Rcpt To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Server: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [1.2.3.4]

[<02>] The reason of the delivery failure was:

501 5.5.4 Invalid Address

Who's right, Exchange or Xmail? :-)

Regards, Manuel Martin
