Mhm that is too complicated in most situations, because you need to look quickly into some mailboxes, delete mails etc. You'll have to get the password and the pop3 procedures. With shell account it's faster and more efficient. I know you want to avoid work (like me ;-) ) but I guess this is a common problem. Some time ago there where also some requests about it - maybe you can think of it once again.
