We had this problem, but I am now writing from another account...

Interesting is, that the main problem seems to arise, if the bulit-in-mailer
from .net 2.0 is used. When it is not used xmail was running for hours, when
it was used , xmail was only running for minutes.
On the other hand this didn't happen during the time the Framework
2.0-applications were on a 32-Bit-machine. 
We now use the mail-server on the 32-bit-machine also for the domains on the
64-Bit-machine, but we would like to change that back some time.

So if anybody finds a solution, it will be appreciated a lot.

I honestly have no clue. The XMail over 64 bits Windows hasn't had that big
of usage.
