Strange ... Never seens xmail doing that ... Do you have any filter installed on xmail side ? Do you have any AV software installed on xmail and/or local = sender/receiver users pc ? Do you have any filtering firewall software/hardware in the way from = smtp sending users to xmail ? Do you have any filtering firewall software/hardware in the way from = xmail to pop receiving users ?
What says xmail smtp logs about receiving the mails ? "OK" this what = size ? Try setting a "cmdalias" account that will simply store the mail in the xmail server harddisk then send mails to it, open resulting mails to = confirm content is ok. If not ok, the problem is in the way from smtp sending = users and xmail server (included), is ok the problem is in the way from xmail = pop server and the final pop client. To complete the test, using the above created cmdalias as destination, localy from the xmail server, stop any av, firewalling software running localy on the xmail server, remove any filters setup from xmail config, restart xmail service, then simulate a local smtp session sending a = mail to the local cmdalias and see if xmail put a correct file on harddisk. If = yes, definively xmail is not the culprit (imoo it's not xmail ...)
