Forgive my ignorance but was there ever a pre4 release?

This presents the same problem that the earlier patch from Mike Diack; it
doesn't recognize the joystick at all. Mike's patch told me "permission
denied" when it was trying to open the joystick ports, as I posted earlier.
This one doesn't do that, as you see, but it still can't find the joystick at
all.
I've not tried the "regular" pre5 yet, but assume that it will behave in the
same manner as the "mame-only" pre5.
