I have kernel 2.4.7 and am using the gamecon module that came with
it. I installed the xmame-xmess-0.56.2-1 rpm and am trying to use a Sony
Analog PS1 controller. The plug is a homebrew parallel port interface
which my brother built to use on windows. I dug up the instructions he
used to build it and verified that the plugs are in the same place as
they are on the linux instructions in joystick-parport.txt.
The controller is plugged into parport1, which lp has been
instructed to ignore, via lilo configuration (lp is compiled into the
kernel directly, not as a module). The gamecon module inserts properly
with options "gc=1,6,0,0,0,0". I fear that perhaps this rpm was not
compiled with joystick support because `xmame -joy` gives an error
("unknown option" or some such...), but -joytype works, so i am not
sure. Because of these doubts I went looking for a src rpm, but couldn't
find one for the xmame-xmess package, but only for xmame alone. If I
must, I can install from the source tar.bz2 files, but rpms are faster,
cleaner and easier to upgrade/uninstall/etc.
Anyway, I don't think the controller is properly installed, even if
xmame has joystick support. `jstest /dev/parport1` gives the following
output:
> Joystick (Unknown) has 2 axes and 2 buttons. Driver version is 0.8.0.
> Testing ... (interrupt to exit)
>
> jstest: error reading: Invalid argument
I think that this is probably off-topic, but I checked the archives
and saw significant discussion about this. Besides which, I don't know
who else to ask.
Thanks in advance,
