Just a note: after a little fussing, I figured that it should be
urpmi.addmedia -h secsupcontrib ftp://mandrake.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandrake/Mandrake/9.0/contrib/RPMS
rather than:
urpmi.addmedia secsupcontrib -h ftp://mandrake.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandrake/Mandrake/9.0/contrib/RPMS
Prior to trying urpmi, I tried locating and installing a mandrake specific rpm. I found one, but kept having dependency errors. After seemingly installing all the dependencies, I just could not get it to install.
Nonetheless, urpmi worked.
Just a side note... I am off this afternoon to pickup an old Asteroids cabinet I happened to find on ebay by a seller just 2 hours away from me. I am hoping to build a nice mame cabinet. I am thinking of using the x-arcade joystick system.
If anyone has any advice or sites relating to building such a mame cabinet, I am all ears!

urpmi grabs all the necessary stuffs... that's what I'm trying ATM
anyway, and so far it's going well (except I didn't pull the X11 version
the first time I tried, so it didn't play so well with my stuffs.. bah,
fixing that now :) )

Not all RPMs work in all distributions. I'd look for one specifically
designed for mandrake 9, or compile it from source. The readme file in the
main xmame distribution is very descriptive and specific.
and recompiling it. i've in the past used even the rpm's created by
someone on this list (thanks!) under SuSE after an rpm --rebuild xmame*src.rpm
presumably the same thing would be doable for mandrake, especially if the
dependencies are soft version numbers like you mention below:
if they don't provide such source, ask them for it. they oughta.
