Probably. Since the TFT screen resolution can't be changed, it depends on the video adapter to emulate different resolutions. A few do, others don't.
You can test by first trying to change your X resolution manually, just play with Ctrl+Alt+- and see what happens.
Damn TFT... it just changes the amount of display area in the screen but not the resolution. Thx for the tip.

But then again, if you are unlucky enough, you might end up with a non-filtered fullscreen. Sadly, A lot of laptop displays don't do decent fullscreen stretching, which makes for a very, very sucky-looking fullscreen on non-native resolutions. (tip to all xmame mailinglist subscribers: if you buy a laptop and plan to play 2d games on it, check out if fullscreen is filtered! Unless you like blocky fullscreen!)
