I can't find a way to save a copy of Xmame's PCM output to a file.
With -ad ./regular-file, nothing is written to /dev/dsp, but
nothing is written to ./regular-file either. Is there any way to
do that without hacking the source ?

Did you enable SOUND_WAVEOUT = 1 in the makefile? If so, you probably also need to select it with -dsp-plugin (-dp).
