WORKAROUND (tested; will do until Mozilla::CA update):
append offending SOAP-server's certificate to the Mozilla::CA
certificate file (...)/lib/Mozilla/CA/cacert.pem
Guess I had to write a ton of text before having this simple idea
pounced upon an unsuspecting me - all by itself ;-). Well...
