No. This originates from the versioning information of the glibc you _linked_ against. If you build the library with our workstation that has glibc 2.4 installed the resulting .so library contains the GLIBC_2.4 symbol. If you try to run this library on your target system with glibc 2.3 there is no such symbol defined. That's why you have to setup a cross compile enviroment with glibc 2.3 to link against.
