Do you need to set the ignorableWhitespace handler?
We have ours set to the same function as we use for the characters handler, and it correctly processes whitespace in
tags.

Hi,

The HTML parser incorrectly throws away whitespace inside
elements, so that the following input:

x
try

is collapsed to this:

x
try

This can be verified with xmllint --html. Similar problems have been observed in the past with whitespace between adjacent elements, which can also result in incorrect output.

Best regards,

Michael
