Yes, this could be the way in the wrapper.
Note however - you detect a failure not until your applet want to access
the server:
If you need to detect missing callback notifications earlier
you need to ping the server to find out there is a problem.

The primitive applet code has no fail safe features.
You could wrap a class around it which does reconnect for you.
This would be a nice feature to add to our distribution ...
