Good question.  There is no single right way to transfer XML files.  It 
depends on the business needs and circumstances.  Let me recommend starting 
with the Overview and Requirements paper developed by the ebXML 
Transport-Routing-Packaging project team.  See 
http://www.ebxml.org/specdrafts/transportation/trpreq.pdf  .  It will give 
you a good introduction and describe some of the different models.  Best
