The converter or a replacement for the converter will take the file and
change it to xml.

We do this for all messages and files within our Business Rules Engine. It
uses xml for all its own internal processes. If the external systems can
use xml then fine xml is passed or taken from those systems. If the
external systems need some other format then fine again the BRE converts the
xml to whatever file is required. In cases where file input is not possible
the BRE will convert the xml to key strokes and automatically type the
information on the screen of the receiving system. (It must be in a Windows
environment so dumb terminals have to be emulated on a PC to let this
particular function work.) We have customers using this going back to
1995...

Subject: Where and How to start

Hi

I have certain queries in respect of the replaceabliity / scaleability in
using XML over EDI. This is for my understanding.

My question is as follows. For example...

1. An organisation has an Order Processing system in place. The data
presently is formatted and transmitted using a converter.

2. How do u think the data can be organised or formatted using XML? XML is
basically a structured transportaion layer is what i understand? '

3. The data is in .txt format and it has all details about an order or
orders.

Requirement

This collated data available in .txt format has to be read and converted
into the XML format and transmitted.

Can you describe me the process how this can be done?

Regards

Shi
