Betty Harvey, of Electronic Commerce Connection, Inc., got a little
annoyed at John Cirincione who had offered the domain name
ediconsultants.com up for sale: "In a 'me' society, you have to love an
opportunist!!! In the beginning the internet was built on a sense of
community."

I too get peeved with a system which doesn't seem to protect property
rights - i.e., the rights to a good name for which it has taken years to
build a reputation, only to find some sleazy cyber-squatter has paid $75
in order to extort considerable sums from the rightful claimant.

Since John's signature said he hailed from Hudson, Ohio, I figured I'd
do a quick search by Business Name at the Ohio Secretary of State's
office, at http://www.ohio.gov/sos/. John Cirincione is indeed the
rightful owner (or at least the agent) of the moniker "EDI Consultants"
(in Ohio, at least). Further, he's had it since 1994, well before the
URL land rush occurred.

Now if only there weren't so many different types of companies with the
name "Foresight" - then we would have been able to dispense with the
"corp" in our URL!
