Paul Williams, of the Kellogg Company, asked "What do I need to send an
XML document over the Internet, or using SMTP? How is the above done?.
i.e, how does the message get from the application onto the Internet and
arrive at it destination? How does the XML get it's address information?
Where does any encryption take place?"
When not using the same vendor's software at either end, interoperable
transport, packaging and routing standards are necessary. EDIINT
S/MIME AS1 e-mail and AS2 via HTTP are used for the point-to-point
transport of EDI (X12 or EDIFACT) over the Internet. I believe these
standards, supported by packages like those peddled by Dick Brooks'
Group 8760, also transport XML documents.
Other interoperable standards - or frameworks - for interoperable XML
B2B messaging include Microsoft's BizTalk, at
http://www.microsoft.com/biztalk/; the RosettaNet Implementation
Framework (RNIF), at
http://www.rosettanet.org/general/index_general.html; and most
important, the ebXML Transport, Packaging and Routing Specification, at
http://www.ebxml.org/.
Doug Fangmeier told us that Richard Hayes' website, at
http://www.scbot.com/, presented a picture of a woman's navel and a pair
of jeans that were partially opened. I immediately went there, but all
I saw were ads for Internet portals, Search engines, free software, and
airplane ticket auctions - no matter how many times I pressed the
"refresh" button. I also checked out Paul's website, at
http://www.kelloggs.com/, to investigate what he was offering; I didn't
go past the first webpage after being presented with Pokmons; I had
them all already.
