Jake:

With most business data exchanges, the trading partners need to agree on the
message format. Either industry associations agree on a common format or
major customers dictate to their suppliers the format of the messages. In
February I did a survey of XML business vocabularies for XML.Com; see
http://www.xml.com/pub/2000/02/23/ebiz/index.html for the text (I'm doing an
update of the piece now).

If you can provide a few more details about the industry in which you work or
the business requirements of your marketplace, we can probably provide a few
specifics. Best regards.
