Group members - please take a minute...
To get a jumpstart on our checklist for the Group meeting on Sept 21st,
please send to me your thoughts on the criteria that you feel is important
and should be published. As the checklist is composed, and grows over
time, it will be available to everyone on our Group's webpage.
- For XML/edi users, include the checklists you have been using to evaluate
products/vendors, even if it is one criterion such as "HIPAA compliance."
Many of these can be found as requirements for your project.
- For product vendors, now is your chance to seed future dialogs with
perspective with leading questions. If your product has an advantage over
others on the market, now is the time to get it on the checklist.
Also please send comments on the areas that we should cover on the
checklist. Currently we have:
- Marketplaces, services, & portals
- Business rules - workflow engines
- Schema; editors
- Schema; store
- Content; editors
- Content; store
- Translators
- Connectivity; transport - routing - packaging
A complete XML/edi solution should contain all of the above, with some mix
of products. I would think important items such as 'security' would be an
underlying criteria for each of the above. What is missing? Should some be
consolidated?
With your criteria submission, please include as much information as
possible to make it easier for those using the list to better understand the
differentiating point being made:
- Prime Area (see above)
- Related secondary areas (see above)
- Vertical (only if specific to one or more)
- Environment (if applicable)
- Criteria in form a question
- Description
- Parameters (quantities here)
- Standard(s) - other than XML if applicable
- Computer language if specific
- Current product feature, desired, don't know
- if current product above, list known products w/ URL & price
- if desired feature, explain with related examples if possible
- suggested priority
- your name and contact information
The checklist is something we received as feedback on how the Group can help
move XML/edi forward and should provide a win-win for everyone. Perhaps if
you are new to the Group, then you might want vendors to submit a
requirement for a 'tutorial' or 'online help reference' - it is this easy.
An additional note, today there is no intention to list vendors/products in
the published checklist, but instead a flag will indicate a product does
exists with the capability. The 'flavor' of the checklist is to promote
XML/edi technology, and service the XML/edi Group members.
For the meeting this week please send your submissions to me. Hopefully we
will have a online submittal form once we see the submittals and understand
all the criteria which we need to collect.
Thank you everyone ahead of time,
- Bruce
