We're having an important XML Community
Process public meeting on November
13 in San Jose. We're going to discuss the appropriate roles for government, standards organizations, consortia, and developer communities in advancing 21st century standards. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss whether a community process can steer XML in a direction that satisfies the desires of several communities: - Java Community Process and JSR - Open Source - advocates of formal ISO standards (C++ and HTML are ISO standards, Java and XML are not) We're going to have representatives from the W3C, Web3D Consortium, XML/EDI Group, JDOM initiative, Java Community Process, Data Interchange Standards Association (DISA), Open Healthcare Group, and other organizations -- plus members of the XML developer community. The agenda includes: - the JDOM initiative and Java Community Process - the process by which the Web3D Consortium advanced the VRML spec to international standard (ISO) - OASIS, which partners with the UN on e-commerce (ebXML) and the U. S. government (NIST) on XPath/XSLT conformance testing. ------------ Public Announcement ----------------- On November 13, 2000, there will be an XML community public meeting in San Jose, California.
