I tend to think of Java as the assembly language of the Java platform. The
Java language is good but I think it has more characteristics of a
system-level language than of a high-level one. It plays a role similar to
C for Unix or Windows and therefore it has to remain low-level.
As we have discussed already, the main value of Java is in the Java
platform that brings portability, not so much in the language.
To bring this thread back to XML, look as XSLTC: it treats XSLT has a new
high-level language for the Java platform--like JavaScript or Python.
