There are a number of industry groups that have developed DTD's or schemas
for various transportation functions. There are various companies that
have developed there own DTD's or schemas for transportation functions. And
there are more in development right now.
The Transportation Subcommittee of X12 will be developing DTD's and/or
schemas that we hope will be common across industries. Of course, X12
standards are voluntary and industry groups may or may not use what is
developed. But it is hoped that this effort will result in fewer
proprietary implementations.
The XML task group of the Transportation Subcommittee will be meeting next
week in conjunction with the X12 meeting in Seattle. Specific DTD or schema
work will depend on requests from users. The meeting will take place on
Monday, February 5th in the afternoon. Meeting information is available on
the X12 web site (www.disa.org). Current work in progress is on the core
components and is being coordinated with the X12 XML Task Group.
