Amit,
Most of the translators you talk about - Gentran, TLE, Mercator...etc being used in the EDI world have many similarities, however their are some major differences as well. It all boils down to what your requirements are and what is your budget.
We were looking at different translators recently - they all seem to do the basic operations expected of them - however as you try to start talking about XML ....etc...they can get fancy and so does the price. Some of them offer additional features - as options, so you can consider it at a later stage if required (by then who knows how much things will have changed). One of the important things you may want to consider is the company's strategy on how they plan to intergrate/extend their products to incorporate XML oriented technologies.
You can contact these companies directly to get an understanding of their products....they are usually more than willing to help.
