>Is the ebXML Registry going to attempt to do the same thing
as UDDI (or is the ebXML Registry only about Schemas, and not Web
Services)?
If so, will they play nice together, i.e. share semantics? Or is this once
again going to be left up to the developer to somehow map them together?

UDDI registry is white/yellow/green page directory - and therefore it
has a distributed model with distributed updating to ensure coherence.
The business model is like telephone companies business directories +
interface automation / marketplace integration based around services
and service interface definitions (TModels) of network underpinning.

The ebXML registry is very different. It is not distributed. Each
registry
maintains its own information base, and can cross-reference content
in other registries. The metadata content supports the big picture
components of ebXML - TRP, CPP, CC and BP. The mission is
to provide the lynchpin reference central that drives ebXML 'runtime'.
The only overlap with UDDI is in the CPP discover area. Clearly
ebXML will provide extended directory lookups that UDDI does not,
and also XML services and ad hoc querying that UDDI does not.

Ultimately this means ebXML Registries will be the 'big brother' with
UDDI drawing off them to provide the real XML runtime processing,
while UDDI is solely focused on providing network-centric information
that is out of scope for ebXML. In some ways the WSDL work and
SOAP are then bridges between the two.
