Subject: RE: Anyone dumping Peregrine?

I just completed a successful upgrade implementation of Peregrine-Harbinger from version 4.1 to version 5.0 on a HP UNIX 11 platform with Oracle database version 8i (8.1.5) and Oracle client software running on Windows 2000. Although the Opt Center and Workbench running on Windows 2000 was not certified by Peregrine-Harbinger, we have not had any issues. The implementation uses standard VAN connections with NO FTP of data between trading partners.

Peregrine-Harbinger imposed stricter standards edits in the move from 4.1 to 5.0. If your maps adhere to standards for HL loops, segment loops and field qualifiers, you will have less mapping issues. Before implementation we updated our maps where necessary based on testing each maps and checking for map failures and differences in map output of v 4.1 verses v 5.0.

I have been told Peregrine-Harbinger upgrade from v 4.1 to v 5.0 was a more significant upgrade to mapping than the move from 5.0 to 5.1. The upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1 involves new mapping features. Currently we are not using XML. Our next move will be to EDI over the Internet. We have an ongoing search and review project for software products that will move our EDI communications to the web.

I believe that the decision lies with the platform on which you are running v5.0.    Our initial indications on the AS400 platform appear to be a stable application.

Hello, group.

I've been asking numerous questions to you guys about the TLE EV5.0 upgrade. Well, based on all of the responses that I've received and all the problems that I've been told about, I'm a little apprehensive about moving forward with this upgrade. This apprehensiveness is not strictly based on the responses from this group, but also from speaking with others who are currently attempting the upgrade.

Also, I'm just having second thoughts about whether or not this product is the best product for our company's future.

I have two questions that I wanted to ask the group. If you can, please answer one or the other.

Is there anybody else in here that will not be doing the 5.0 upgrade even though you will lose Peregrine support and will continue using TLE 4 (or below) until a much later time period (perhaps next year) or until you find a better product? Would doing that be a huge risk?

Question 2: Is anyone out there using the following EAI tools (SEEBEYOND, VITRIA/XML SOLUTIONS, WEBMETHODS) and if so, can you tell me what you think of the EDI/XML functionality within it? Mainly, I'm asking about the mapping tool, but please elaborate on anything else that you wish.

SALES PERSONNEL, please do not reply to this email!!

Thanks.
