We have implemented four X.12 EDI transactions (4010) using BizTalk Server.
Documents leave our legacy system as XML documents and are passed to BTS.
BTS maps the XML documents to the X.12 docs and fires 'em off to Geisco
(flip flop that for the received documents).

BTS license (if you can get away with the standard version) is $5,000.
It's hard not to be tempted by that price. It does some things well, and
others, poorly or not at all. However, as others have pointed out, you
will find many pieces missing and will have to 'roll your own'. that's
where the additional costs come in. We took 2 man-months to get this
working (but that included integration with Geisco over a VPN which was a
pain). We did not employ orchestration (it is not actually required), had
to write much scripting, had to do some pre-processing and post-processing
of documents, etc. We did not go the COM route; however, if you truly plan
this to be a long-term solution, and you want code reuse (what, some people
don't?), then you must roll your own COM.

BTW: We looked at DataJunction which couldn't fill or needs and also
Seeburger (which was too expensive). We are also working as a webMethods
partner, but wM licensing is much more expensive.

           Hi,

           Company that I'm working for is trying to evaluate a Micorsoft
BizTalk Server. It is a Microsoft SQL Server based XML/EDI solution for a
fairly small/medium size enterprise. Has anyone had an experience with
this
product and particularily with

* Level of complexity involved with installation and setup
* Level of complexity involved internal Programming
* Periodic maintenance of the product (database/net
connectivity/periodic logs)
*          External support availability
*          Pros and cons

           I would really appreciate any answers from people who had
anything
to do
           with this product

     Thanks & Regards
