Hi Ruud,
Yes you can definitely use an EDIFACT message as the payload inside an ebXML transport.
In fact that is one of the advantages of ebXML messaging, the payload can be whatever you want it to be, such as EDIFACT, ANSI, an XML dialect, proprietary transaction, whatever.
