I have been watching the recent discussion threads with interest. We are working with a number of large corporates in the IT sector (vendors, distributors, and resellers) to develop an XML message based ordering system. The problem for us has been too many standards. It looks from here that there are people trying to build businesses/careers out of developing them at every level. The thrust in the UK is to get on and do things in the real world as cheaply and quickly as we can, utilizing whatever tools we can find that will do the job. We also like to stick with things that are likely to be around a while. Thus, the heart of the system is built around MS BizTalk - it's cheap, it's easy to configure and it works for us. We looked at things like RosettaNet and just laughed. Everything we all need to do can be handled by a schema comprising no more than 20 lines. There is now a major UK IT industry initiative building up around this approach. The drive here is just to get something that works with the systems we already have and then build upon it. We leave it to you guys in the US to complicate things. We are all pragmatists here.
