Maotl (?),
I realized, after the euphoria created by your comments subsided :), that my
signature may have inadvertently misled you as to my position. I am not
"the" CIO but rather a primary architect in Lucent's CIO Strategy, Planning
& Architecture group. However, we do have the ear of "the CIO" who I can
safely say is excited about our strategy and the possibilities it promises.
It was nice while it lasted :)

Subject: Re: Article: Future of XML and EDI?
Kurt,Dick and All: I came to this XML discussion thread by way of a VPN
effort in the automotive industry attempting to tie all the majors and their
suppliers together. It introduced me to term XML, which I have now studied
in
a little depth but mostly by sitting on the side watching what you all say.
Kurts analysis was most encouraging to me because of the stature I think I
read into Lucents role, (and the stature, I attribute to his title) they
were
the primary contractor with the Automotive industry, if I remember
correctly.
Reading this weeks Business week and the puff piece on Fords desire to
virtualize (whatever that means) through e-business helps me to really
believe that the many disconnects will in some way become less disconnected
through all your efforts.
I teach this stuff at a very basic level in a community college situation
and
try to get them aware of the opportunities that may be opened by these open
communication technologies in progress.
I encourage you all to redouble your efforts to bring consistent and
responsive layers of solutions to the industry, and put real teeth and truth
into the promises of this technology. Thanks for the realities already
created.
