This is a known bug (the two spell checkers do not ``communicate'' at
all) found just after v3.4 has been released. This is not related to the
fact that the element has been marked as read-only.

Note that the word has really been learned: if you *quit* XXE, *restart*
it, and *reopen* the document containing the unknown word, you'll find
that the word has really been learned by both spell checkers.

I'm sorry but the answer is no. It would be easier to support modular
documents differently (inclusions not marked read-only).
