In fact, I've found references to this variable in the source of the XSLT style sheet but I've not found its documentation in http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/docbook_xsl/doc/html/rn21.html I should have also searched in http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/doc/docbook_xsl/doc/html/rn19.html
