Depending on the Look&Feel I choose, I face the problems described
below. Has anybody a solution to one of them or suggestions for a
workaround to share? All in all, I tend to follow Husseins's
suggestion to use Metal Look&Feel as that seems to be the lesser
evil.
My environment:
XXE V. 2.11
Linux 2.4.20-28.9 (RedHat 9A)
Java 1.5.0_02
Gnome 2.2.0
metacity 2.4.34
- Metal Look&Feel, not in default (GTK+) or CDE/Motif Look&Feel:
- In Attribute form of Attributes tool, Enter does not open the
"list value" button when it has the focus (after using tab to move
there) - you need to leave the keyboard and click on it; but
automatic autocompletion (when turned on) allows to select a value.
But this is OK, Metal Look&Feel does even a better job here by
providing instant autocompletion.
- In Attribute form of Attributes tool, Enter does not open the "URL
chooser" when it has the focus.
This is rather inconvenient: I have to leave the keyboard here and
use the mouse to open the URL chooser.
- Metal Look&Feel or CDE/Motif Look&Feel, not in default (GTK+) Look&Feel:
- In Attribute table of Attributes tool, Enter does not open the
value field for editing when it has the focus (after using tab to
move there), but rather acts like tab - you need to leave the
keyboard and click inside the value field.
IMHO not a big problem, as the Attribute table editor is mainly
intended for mouse-based access.
- default (GTK+) Look&Feel, not with Metal or CDE/Motif Look&Feel:
- In Attribute table editor, the value of an attribute is unreadable
only when it is currently being edited (font too large?).
- By default, the document window is too tall, so you must manually
shrink it by dragging down the outer border of its title bar in
order to see and reach the window's bottom; this is probably
related to the document tabs that are displayed at the bottom.
(Was already reported as a bug on the xmleditor-support list.)
- Ugly and confusing icon separators in the toolbar: vertical line
ends in the middle of the field.
(XXE's GUI using GTK was already reported as being ugly on the
xmleditor-support list. :-))
