Strictly speaking the answer is no. (One could say that using the tree view and the styled view side by side makes XXE slightly slower.) However the tree view has not been designed to be used in conjunction with the styled view. If it were designed for that, we would have made it more compact and we would not have made it fully editable. The tree view is interesting on its own (e.g. for editing XSLT), and it will probably be enhanced to make it even more useful when used alone (e.g. in place editing of attributes, customizing it, etc).
