In a nutshell, with stock DocBook XSL style sheets, books have cover
pages, while articles have no cover pages.

Therefore, a quick and dirty way to get what you want is to convert your
article to a book by hand using XXE+cut&paste or using a text editor or
using a simple XSLT style sheet.

That's right. Thank you Philip. You'll find there everything about
*customizing* the title page, which is almost always needed.
