You can do that, but for a given document type (i.e. DocBook, Slides, XHTML, etc). Please read http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/_distrib/docs/configure/ch04.html You can also check this sample: XXE_install_dir/docs/configure/samples2/mydocbook.xxe , which is pretty easy to understand, even without the doc. Note that due to a bug this sample is missing from V2.7 and therefore you need to download from http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/user_faq.html#missing_samples > 2.
